Michigan Medicine Timekeeper Update: Dec 23, 2020

Emergency Paid Sick Leave (PEL) and Expanded FMLA (PFL) end December 31

The Federal EPSLA and E-FMLA programs end on December 31, 2020. The use of these paid time off banks end on this date, regardless of any remaining time left in either bank.

At this time, we do not have any direction from the government about whether these programs will be extended in 2021. If any changes occur, we will share details as available.

Bridging to extended sick time for non-bargained for staff on the PTO plan

What qualifies:

  1. Employees must have at least one (1) year of service and have 20 standard hours (.5 FTE) appointment on Job Data. The three extended sick time banks are loaded into the system once this requirement is met. A 400-hour bank of full pay hours, 656 hours of ⅔ pay hours, and 1056 hours of ½ pay hours are loaded. These banks are pro-rated for part time staff.
  2. Employees must have a qualifying event that lasts more than 10 days.
  3. A case must be submitted and approved by the HR Solutions Center Leave Management Team.
  4. Employee must bridge once per year in order to use Extended Sick paid time:
    1. 40 hours of one time bank, PTO, or no pay
    2. Must re-bridge each calendar year
    3. Holidays can count towards the 40 for bridging

If an employee is using Extended Sick at the end of the calendar year and will continue into the next year; they must re-bridge starting in January to continue using their Extended Sick bank hours.
