Michigan Medicine Timekeeper Update: April 22, 2021

Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) Time Tracking Bank

Effective May 1 for monthly paid employees and May 2 for bi-weekly paid employees, a new FMLA time tracking bank will be added to all employees who have current and future approved FMLA cases. This bank will appear on the employee’s timesheet in M-Pathways, similar to how extended sick banks appear now. It will provide better visibility into time allotment and availability that will reduce over/under use of FMLA time and help supervisors effectively plan for staffing. This is one of several time tracking tools available within Michigan Medicine.

All Michigan Medicine departments will be required to open aFMLA case with the Human Resources Solutions Center (HRSC) for Leave Management Support. Failure to do so will result in the employee’s inability to record FMLA time on their timesheets.

Once the case is approved, the time bank will be added to the employee’s timesheet at a rate of 480 hours * FTE (prorated by FTE), the full 12-weeks of time available in the benefit year. It will NOT reflect the individual employee’s amount of approved time, which the employee and department will be responsible for keeping track of.

Also, effective May 1 for monthly and May 2 for bi-weekly, FMLA time should be reported as ‘FMT’ (FMLA Tracking – Mich Med) on the M-Pathways timesheet and will be accessible once the time bank is added for the employee. This code is ONLY for tracking purposes and should be used concurrently with other pay codes as appropriate for the employee. (i.e. PTO, no pay status, extended sick, etc.)
