December PTO/ vacation loads for AFSCME and Trades bargained-for staff

AFSCME and Trades bargained-for staff at Michigan Medicine who are active on December 1, 2022, will have 32 hours of PTO/ vacation hours, prorated by FTE, added to their banks. The hours will be effective and available for use on Sunday, November 27, 2022.

The additional hours will be added after the December accrual loads. This gives employees the entire month of December to use any excess hours that exceed the maximum allowed balance in accordance with the respective bargaining agreements. Once January’s accrual is loaded, any hours that exceed the maximum allowed balance + one additional accrual, will be lost. Please remind employees of this so they can plan time off if needed.

This annual load of hours for these bargained-for employees is in lieu of the season days available to Campus employees.

Fake Phishing Email

Earlier this week HITS sent out a fake phishing email to test our ability as employees to identify phishing scams. The message indicated PTO hours would expire at the end of the pay period 10/28/22 (not a pay period end date) and gave links to what was described as the PTO policy. Ideally everyone would notice it was a scam and click on the “report phish” button in Outlook to report it.

MMHR had an uptick in calls and emails from employees who were concerned about their PTO bank balances.

If an employee is within 3 months of their max PTO or Vacation balance there will be a flag on their Self-Service Leave Balances tile that lets them know they are “near max”. The Max balance amount is 18 times the monthly accrual rate for U-M Health non-bargained for and UPAMM, MNA, and AFSCME bargained for employees. The max is 24 times monthly accrual for the Skilled Trades bargained for employees on the vacation plan.
