U-M Health Timekeepers & Approvers Weekly Update: July 20, 2023

FMLA (Family Medical Leave Act) Tracking on Timesheet

The FMLA benefit runs concurrent with your paid or unpaid time.

  • For an employee’s own serious health condition, employees must use all available payable benefits they are eligible for prior to any unpaid time. This may include PTO, Vacation, Sick, Extended Sick, Holiday, Maternity, Parental, One Time Bank and Excused time without pay. This will be determined once supporting documentation has been submitted and/or validation from Work Connections if needed for Extended Sick pay.
  • Absences to care for a family member with a serious health condition may be paid by accessing PTO, Vacation or Sick, or unpaid time. You will need to designate this at the time of your conversation with your supervisor when taking leave time under the FMLA.
  • Absences to care for a covered service member may be paid by accessing PTO, Vacation or Sick, or unpaid time. You will need to designate this at the time of your conversation with your supervisor when taking leave time under the FMLA.

Absences due to a qualifying exigency may be paid by accessing PTO, Vacation or Sick, or unpaid time. You will need to designate this at the time of your conversation with your supervisor when taking leave time under the FMLA
