Our teams continue to work together to deliver thoughtful, thorough and responsive proposals that support the long-term growth and success of our team members. This week, discussions were focused on recertification processes and various leaves (sick, family, bereavement, etc.). Some of the proposals shared introduced new language, such as the proposal from HOA as it relates rotations at the VA and representation on related councils, as well as updates to our long-standing support of various recertification procedures, such as BLS, ALS, PALS, ATLS and more.
Both teams made significant progress toward a consistent definition for family care leave and bereavement leave that aligns with the University’s Standard Practice Guide. The University also shared a proposal to address sick leave that introduces dedicated paid days off for use in the event of acute illness of the house officer or child and attendance at doctors’ appointments, including those for preventative care. Conversations around maternity and parental leave also continue, with both sides seeking a solution that is compassionate, aligned with the existing Standard Practice Guide and supportive of a successful training experience.
We expect to continue many of these conversations next week and look forward to discussing provisions involving paid time off, vacation, orientation, holiday pay, cell phone stipends and information technology, as well as the HOA proposal for a new provision in the contract concerning on-call pay.
