HOA Negotiations Update: February 3, 2020
At Monday evening’s negotiation session, both teams continued to spend time discussing original proposals previously presented and new counterproposals based off discussions at prior negotiation sessions. This discussion included an HOA proposal on preventative care/wellbeing and posting of work schedules, as well as HOA and University counterproposals to each other on paid maternity and parental leave, cell phone stipends, and extracurricular medical practice. Throughout the discussion of the proposals, the teams elaborated on the details of the proposals by citing examples of the problem the proposals were intended to solve, answered one another’s questions and discussed potential implications associated with proposals. The teams verbally agreed to the language proposed for the contract’s non-discrimination clause and the labor-management committee, a mechanism intended to maintain open lines of communication between the parties on matters of mutual interest after contract negotiations end.
For next week’s bargaining session, the teams agreed to discuss all proposals related to time off, such as paid vacation, paid leaves, and maternity/paternity leave, and that they should be discussed relative to each other for greater context. Both groups agreed to bring forth counterproposals on these topics at the next bargaining session.
