Negotiations resumed Monday after a brief, one-week break. Together, our teams continue to seek opportunities to improve the House Officer experience, clarify and streamline processes, and refine language to ensure expectations are articulated in ways that are clear, fair and responsive to House Officer interests.
Progress was made related to the wording of certain provisions, including the distinction of time off used for preventative care and personal days. Additional discussion occurred around random drug testing, IT access for HOA staff, and felony disclosure procedures intended to ensure a safe work environment for patients and employees.
The University also presented a response to the union’s initial parking proposal that reflects both the ongoing measures the University has put into place to address key concerns, as well as our desire to develop creative, flexible solutions that enable House Officers and program leadership to implement parking assignments that work best for their teams based on need, shift schedules and more.
The next negotiation session will be held on Monday, March 9. Discussions around paid leaves, orientation, holiday pay, recertification processes, parking, felony reporting, grant funding of house officers, work hours and schedules, extracurricular medical practice, and responses to proposed language regarding activity with the VA will continue to at that time.
