Holiday time reporting reminders

Monday, July 5th is a University-observed holiday. The actual holiday falls on Sunday, July 4th. Departments that are a 24/7 operation may observe the actual holiday for their non-bargained for and UMPNC/MNA bargained for staff. For UPAMM bargained for staff in units that are 6 or 7 day operations, observe the actual holiday. For AFSCME bargained for staff, please refer to paragraph 22-8 in the contract. The day the holiday is observed is dependent on the employee’s regularly scheduled days. TRADES bargained for staff use the UM observed holiday (Monday, July 5th).  IUOE bargained for staff observe the actual holiday (Sunday, July 4th).

When working on the observed Independence Day Holiday, all employees report HWT (Holiday worked 1.5) except IUOE bargained staff who report HWD (Holiday worked 2.0).

Remember to report Overtime Half Pay (OTH) on holiday weeks where hours worked on the holiday causes employee to exceed 40 hours worked in the week.

Example: A 40-standard hours (1.0 FTE) non-exempt employee is scheduled to work 8 hours, Monday through Friday; including on the holiday. They are asked to work an 4 additional hours on the holiday. Since hours worked on the holiday also count towards the 40 in a week and hours that exceed 40 must be paid as overtime, this employee is due 4 hours of overtime in addition to the HWT reported on the holiday.  4 OTH is reported on a non-holiday day in the week along with REG to create the 1.5 pay for the 4 hours worked over 40.

For more information on reporting holiday for each workgroup, including additional examples of these two situations, visit the MMHR website Time Reporting: Holiday page.
