Staff FAQs & Support

Updated April 23, 2024

How will the Valuation/performance evaluation process change?

The annual evaluation will transition from a “digital paper/PDF” process to an online performance management system within Cornerstone. Instead of using a comprehensive digital or paper document, most employees will engage with Cornerstone online through a more phased, ongoing performance review process, as shown below. This closely follows the current quarterly cadence.

How will the Blue Folder process be impacted?

Cornerstone Performance Management is the source of truth for all evaluation materials moving forward, and we have streamlined many steps employees used to need to complete for evaluations. There is no longer any reason to take the extra step of putting evaluation forms into an employee's Blue Folder. Individuals with the appropriate levels of access can now run reports to see the status of their team's evaluations through Cornerstone.

Who will this change impact?

This update will affect over 20,000 staff, including non-faculty, non-represented employees.  Some employees represented by a union may be included in this process in accordance with their collective bargaining agreement. Decisions related to the participation of other bargained-for employees are still in progress. Temporary employees are not included in the online performance management process.

How will this change impact the cadence and process of performance evaluations?

Staff will still complete and submit their employee evaluation by the end of the fiscal year (June 30).

When will the new online performance management system be implemented?

The new online performance management system went live in September 2023. For nursing, it went live in January 2024.

Where is the evaluation form in Cornerstone?

The annual evaluation won’t be available to access in the system until April 1 when it gets deployed. Employees and leaders will have from April 1 - June 30 to work individually on evaluations, discuss, and submit evaluations.

How many goals am I required to submit?

Employees are required to have at least one goal submitted in the system.

How long do people have to submit goals?

Employees can add goals at any time during the year, however they'll need to add them to the system before submitting their annual evaluation to their leader.

Are my previous goals or performance evaluations available in Cornerstone?

No, no previous performance information will be migrated into Cornerstone.

Am I required to create a Development Plan and use the Check-In Tool in Cornerstone?

No, the use of Development Plans and Check-Ins is entirely optional. An advantage to using these tools is that you’ll be able to track progress on your development, reference your goals, and take check-in notes in a single, convenient location.

How do I do "X" in Cornerstone?

First, try to access the training resources via the Get Help button on the Cornerstone Welcome where you can find help documentation and videos. Or, consider attending an information session or office hours to see live demonstrations of the system.

I can't see/do a specific feature in the system. Who do I contact?

If you can’t see Goals or other features in the system, it might mean that you’re part of an audience that’s out of scope for this project.

If you know that you’re not out of scope for this project, you should submit a Cornerstone Performance Help Form and the issue will get routed to the correct team.

What training will be provided?

Myriad resources will be available to help employees with this transition, including information sessions, drop-in office hours, instructional videos, “The Wrap” podcasts, tip sheets, and other forms of training and support to assist employees through this change. For office hours Zoom links and other support resources, visit the Performance Evaluation Resources webpage.

When will we receive more information about additional Cornerstone features?

The roll out of training and information will follow in parallel to the 1-Year Performance Management Roadmap. The first quarter will focus on goal setting. Quarter 2 will focus on development plans and check-in conversations. Quarter 3 will focus on 360 Reviews and reporting in the system. Quarter 4 will focus on how to complete the annual evaluation.

The Information Sessions and Office Hours will cover specific Cornerstone features following the same quarterly cadence. There is no longer any need to register for these sessions. To attend an information session or office hours, please utilize the Zoom links on the Performance Evaluation Resources webpage. As new resources are created, we will also add them to the webpage.
