Additional time this week was spent discussing the union’s salary proposal with the University team having the opportunity to ask the union questions about their data and rationale for their proposal. This information was helpful in better understanding the union’s proposals. These discussions are likely to continue through the remaining small group sessions, in addition to further conversations related to disciplinary procedures and policies.

After another week of small group negotiations, UPAMM and the University are nearing tentative agreements on several proposals including committees and governance, temporary employees, personnel records, attendance policy, mandatory felony disclosures, provider impairment, flu vaccination and other mandatory immunizations, bulletin boards, attendance policy, drug testing, lists and information, and seniority.

Negotiations between the University and UPAMM resumed last week with the new approach outlined in recent updates. A small subgroup from both bargaining teams spent much of the week’s meetings re-acclimating after the two month hiatus.

After a two-month hiatus from negotiations as UPAMM worked on its comprehensive contract proposal, the University and UPAMM will return to negotiations on Tuesday, March 23. The University has proposed, and UPAMM has agreed to, a more streamlined bargaining process that will help expedite conversation to achieve the goals of concluding negotiations and reaching a tentative agreement by early May.

After negotiating for approximately two months, both parties agreed to explore the development of a two-year “mini contract” that would expedite negotiations, respond to key issues, and clarify a variety of current practices and agreements.

At this point in our negotiations, the Michigan Medicine bargaining team has submitted a counterproposal in response to a package proposal UPAMM provided for a limited, short term contract as a way of expediting the negotiation process.
