Overtime

University of Michigan complies with federal and state provisions of the Fair Labor Standard Act (FLSA). Under FLSA, employees who qualify as non-exempt, or hourly, must be paid overtime for all hours worked in excess of 40 hours in a work week. Qualifying hours for non-exempt staff vary by employee type; the overtime pay chart below may be used as a guide to determine which hours qualify for calculation of overtime pay (OTP) by employee type. OTP is calculated based on the established FLSA rate and includes non-discretionary pay, such as shift premium or on-call.
